Diet and Health

The Health and Diet of models can always be found in the media in some shape or form, with much attention being showed to the health of models in the modelling industry and the diet that they follow. Much debate has taken place in regards to the responsibilities that fashion designers, model agencies and the clients of the modelling industry have in regards to the health and diet requirements of models and some of them are choosing to act upon some recommendations. Many people are of the belief that to be a model you have to be stick thin and a size 0; this is a complete misconception. There are some agencies who will insist that you need to lose stones in weight before you can have any success, which simply isn't true.

Slimmer models are preferred over the more curvaceous model, but this is not suggesting that a 'starved' look is what you should be aiming for. In fact during 2006 Madrid and Milan both banned size 0 models from their fashion shows, with some of the big names in fashion also agreeing not to use models of this size for their catwalk shows. Some of the big names are now requiring that the models have a BMI (Body Mass Index) of over 18 to ensure that they are a healthy weight. In recent years too many models have died whilst battling eating disorders such as anorexia, many having a BMI of under 16, which is the level critical for a healthy, functional body. Having poor health and an inadequate diet will show in your body. Make Up artists and Hair Stylists can only work so much magic and need the raw beauty to start with, and without a good diet and health you will not do yourself justice.

A good diet and general health is vital to a model, for both their physical and mental well being. A good, healthy diet will allow you to maintain a weight that is suitable for your body and allow you to function with good health properly. Modelling requires a great deal of concentration and stamina and it is impossible to have either of these if you have an unhealthy diet and do not exercise regularly. A diet with lots of water, fresh fruit and vegetables is also essential for good skin and health in general, and should never be missed out. For good health you also need to ensure that you receive all of your required vitamins and minerals that can be replaced by supplements but are better to have from your meals. A healthy exercise regime with a good diet will do wonders for a model's looks, skin, stamina and confidence. It is important to look after the body as well as the mind. Choose an exercise program or programs which you can enjoy and maintain over a long period of time.
