Make Up Artists
A creative team is always needed on a photo shoot or modelling assignment of any kind. A professional hair stylist and a great make up artist is a model's dream to have - a partnership to be proud of. If you can work well alongside a hair stylist and be a partner to have and to hold, through thick and through thin, then make up artist stardom will soon be casting its light upon you. It takes a good make up artist to pull off the quick changes needed to transform a model into something totally different for that next photo shoot to take place. It also takes a person with nerves of steel and someone who can work well under pressure. They also need to be able to take direction, work closely with the casting directors and photographers to get the brief in their heads and know what each other is thinking. They also need to work well in a team and work together in a very close environment, usually with not a lot of space to work in.
A look created with makeup is a skill in itself - an art form to be revered. A model and a photographer can't go on with the show if the make up artist isn't there. You need to be there on time and have your essential kit at hand. Know your brief and know your time table to work with. Stick to the deadline and you'll not only impress the best, but you'll be sure to have work again - and sometime very soon. Work with your model and see instantly what needs to be done. Time is of the essence with quick changes a must. Work round the hairstylists and the costume changing department and work your magic juggling different make overs.
Create and style and make your mark in the modelling industry. Work well with others and have the delicate touch at all times. Models are stressed with the quick changes needed on catwalk and fashion shows and it's your responsibility to be their ear and their friend in need. Like a hair stylist, a make up artist is a confidante and a friend rolled into one.Make friends with your model but more importantly make sure you know exactly what the model look is to become and work as fast as you can if it means a quick change.
Be professional and polite and don't ruffle feathers. A model is precious and can sometimes be a diva or a doll depending on the mood. It's your job to soothe or just stay schtum sometimes, so know your place and get on with your work and you'll go far. A make up artist is a treasure to have - remember that - but you could be replaced as soon as you like - it's a very competitive world out there as you probably are aware.
