Alcohol Abuse In Teen Models

As a teenager grows up, the pressures of modelling and also the dangers of teen modelling can cause a young person to suffer from stress and being surrounded by their peers, who perhaps are already drinking and smoking, only adds to the pressures. Alcohol abuse in teen models is all too common and it needs to be understood, and dealt with in a sympathetic way, without damaging your relationship with your child. teen modelling and stress

As you are probably already aware, while a teen model is still at school and year 12 and under, then they must be chaperoned to any modelling jobs they take on. This is a legal requirement. Read up about our child licensing laws to equip yourself with more information if you need to. There is a very good reason for this, and it will help you gain more insight into your child's mind, and hopefully have forged a really close relationship with them.

Even the most dutiful child will want to rebel and may start drinking behind your back, and not want to tell you, but this is what teenagers do. If it is starting to get out of control, then you need to do something about it. But recognising the signs and symptoms is the first step. It's not always easy to see when drinking can cross the line and that your teen model is drinking moderately or socially, or has a real problem with drinking. A teen model's life is very different to a lot of other children their own age because they have the added pressure of balancing teen modelling with schoolwork and coping with home work as well as modelling jobs, which will take up their free time.

Teen modelling and stress go hand-in-hand, and added to the other pressures a teenager faces, their body changing, perhaps relationships at school changing and making them depressed, your teenager may turn to alcohol or drugs as a way of coping.

If you think your teen model is drinking alcohol to cope with difficulties or to deal with stress, to avoid feeling bad, then they are potentially on very dangerous territory. Alcoholism and alcohol abuse can sneak up on anybody at any time and it's very important to be aware of the warning signs and take steps to stop them going any further if you can.

It's cool to be drinking lager, it looks elegant to have cocktails, it's what teenagers do, but it's not right that a teen model uses alcohol to escape their life. Recognise the difference between an alcohol problem, to simply that your child is just growing up. Don't overreact and at all times, try and talk to your teenager as much as you can. You will be able to smell alcohol on their breath, and on their clothes. Check their bedroom, to see if there are any alcoholic substances hidden under mattresses or behind books, for example. But above all else, try really hard to keep up your connection with your teen model. There is help out there but drug abuse in teen models is a lot harder to detect. Read our teen model advice pages and hopefully we can allay some of your fears.
